Journey’s First Trailer

December 11, 2010

Earlier today thatgamecompany released the first trailer for their upcoming PSN exclusive game Journey (seen above). I’ve been very excited about this game, even with little information on the actual gameplay mechanics. This excitement is due to the fact that I really enjoyed their previous PSN games flow and flower. Actually, I loved flower. Journey seems like another great and unique experience. This trailer really sets the mood of the game and shows just how amazing the simple art direction is. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before we get some gameplay details and maybe even a release date.

Thatgamecompany’s New Game Is Announced

June 16, 2010

Sony has announced thatgamecompany’s (TGC) new PS3 exclusive game, Journey. Some screenshots and a fact sheet were sent out.  What is immediately noticeable is the simple and stark art direction shown in the screens. Personally, I’m really digging it. I’ve also liked TGC’s previous games, with flower being one of my favorite games of 2009, so I’m very interested in seeing Journey in motion and hearing more about it. You will also notice that they mention online play. It sounds like you may be able to wander into other players in the vast expanses found in the game and then you may choose to explore with them or not. This could be very interesting. The fact sheet says it will be coming out in 2011, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before we get to see more of this game.

Here is the full fact sheet:

OVERVIEW

The pioneers that brought you the award-winning PlayStation®Network titles flOw & Flower® are back with another title that challenges traditional gaming conventions. With Journey, thatgamecompany (TGC) continues its tradition of delivering simple gameplay and accessible controls in a rich interactive environment that invites players to explore and experience emotional chords that are still uncommon in video games.

An exotic adventure with a more serious tone, Journey presents TGC’s unique vision of an online adventure experience. Awakening in an unknown world, the player walks, glides, and flies through a vast and awe-inspiring landscape, while discovering the history of an ancient, mysterious civilization along the way.

Journey’s innovative approach to online play encourages players to explore this environment with strangers who cross their path from time to time. By traveling together, they can re-shape the experience – creating authentic moments they will remember and discuss with others.
